Creating an infographic is certainly no walk in the park. But I can safely say no humans were injured in the making of this content. To begin with, I assumed that it would be easy to copy paste a few pictures with splash shapes and a word or two…alas, it was not so. Creating an infographic is not as difficult as parallel parking but it does require some consideration. What data to include or omit? How can the graphic make use of shapes and words without looking like an arts and crafts project?
The Hello Computer infographic I have created gives information about the current social media statistics of South Africa. The information it relates would therefore be useful to present on a number of social media platforms and company websites as part of a Digital Marketing Strategy. Strategies require research and the infographic gives researched data about demographics, uses and users of several social media channels. In the construction of Digital Marketing Strategy for Hello Computer, for their clients and their brands; it would be essential to understand who they are, what they offer, why and how they hope to achieve this. Research about the internal and external context of the brand would therefore be beneficial in order to evaluate value proposition.
In crafting a Digital Marketing Strategy the next step would be creating objectives for the brand, selecting tactics (social media), key performance indicators (KPI’s) and targets. This involves identifying what the brand wants to achieve, the tools to do so, goals to be met and an evaluative criteria to measure the level of efficacy in relation to targets. As social media presents numerous contact points between brands and consumers this would augment their strategy. The most important thing for Hello Computer and its clients would be constant enhancement of the strategy as they gain feedback and new insights about consumers and their use of social media.
I have succeeded in making a clear, somewhat business looking image (for a first timer). The important statistics with regard to social media usage are present and the graphic shows which channels are most popular and likely to make a positive impact in future. However, the graphic is not particularly clear on what should then be done with this information.
What is the call to action, the data is out there so now what? In this regard it may have been of consequence to state that as social media allows consumers to interact with brands as well as each other, it can be used as a digital marketing tactic. As a tactic it aids in Brand building, Brand awareness and development of Consumer participation. Therefore any organization that hopes to increase brand value could make use of this platform. In addition to this, it would have been useful to include other social media platforms like Pinterest to the list of upcoming social media platforms, as it too is gaining momentum in the social media arena.
